Can I choose my own doctor for an OWCP claim in Kansas City?
Yes. Under FECA, an injured federal employee may initially choose their own treating physician, and that provider must be enrolled with OWCP to be paid. After your first choice, switching doctors generally requires OWCP approval — so it pays to start with a clinic that handles federal claims every day. Restore's providers are OWCP-enrolled.
Does OWCP pay for my treatment, or will I get a bill?
For accepted conditions, OWCP pays enrolled providers directly for authorized treatment, and there is no copay or deductible for the federal employee. If your claim is still pending, call us and we'll explain how care and billing work in the meantime.
What's the difference between a CA-1 and a CA-2?
A CA-1 is for a traumatic injury caused by a specific event or incident within a single work shift, like a fall or lifting injury. A CA-2 is for an occupational disease or illness caused by work factors over more than one shift, like repetitive-motion injuries. Filing the wrong form is a common reason claims are delayed.
How soon do I need to file my OWCP injury claim?
For a traumatic injury, file your CA-1 within 30 days to remain eligible for up to 45 calendar days of continuation of pay (COP). FECA's general time limit for filing a claim is three years from the date of injury, but filing early protects your benefits and makes your medical evidence stronger.
Does federal workers' comp cover chiropractic care?
Yes, with a specific limit. FECA covers chiropractic treatment consisting of manual manipulation of the spine to correct a subluxation demonstrated by X-ray. Our chiropractors obtain and document that X-ray evidence, and our medical director and physical therapist cover care that falls outside chiropractic scope.
What are the CA-20 and CA-17, and who fills them out?
The CA-20 is the Attending Physician's Report, documenting your diagnosis, how the work incident caused it and your treatment. The CA-17 is a duty status report listing your work restrictions. Both are completed by your treating provider — at Restore, we prepare and submit them for you.
What is a 6th Edition impairment rating?
When you reach maximum medical improvement with lasting impairment to a covered body part, OWCP may pay a schedule award.
